After a body left the landscape – Work in Progress 2013

This is an artistic research project that interweaves body, sound, and western classical painting into one medium. It is an attempt for me to focus on developing my own choreographic vocabulary, through a reformulation of traditional dance and western classical painting, and by problematizing it. It re-conceives the body as a moving and evolving form of documentation, which takes traditional dance form and a western classical painting as transmutable documentation through by relocating them to different contexts. I explored the question of how the body is represented and symbolized in relation to the notion of retrospection in a context of contemporary art, and how the body operates in correlation with the fragment of images from a western classical painting. Specifically, how certain content in the paintings may activate movement.

In this performance, the process of examining the body through ‘historiographic’ reformulation, allowed me to specifically consider an operation of the ‘traditional’ in cooperation with ‘contemporary’ music and ambient sounds.
